About Us
Seeking Wisdom is a nonprofit, nongovernmental, interfaith institute dedicated to combating the nihilism, despair, and injustice of the present period and to charting the next steps in the human civilizational project. We stand for:
a new technological regime which taps into the latent potential of matter and promotes the development of complex organization, life, and intelligence, while conserving the integrity of the ecosystem,
a political economy in which producers control the means of production and the production process, and participate in the allocation of the surplus they produce, which is invested ways which promote human development and civilizational progress,
a public arena which is neither confessional nor secular but pluralistic, and constituted by deliberation around fundamental questions of meaning and value, in which democracy extends to ends as well as means, and
a spirituality of meaning and self cultivation in which a sapientially literate laos engages spiritual questions in a way which is informed by historical-critical and social scientific scholarship and which draws on the contributions of all of humanity's spiritual traditions.
In service to these principles we:
engage in research and scholarship in philosophy, religion, and politics, and publish an international, electronic journal, Seeking Wisdom, which provides a forum for original work engaging fundamental questions in these disciplines, as well as for strategic socioreligious analysis and political theological commentary,
organize community based liberal arts programs, especially in working class and historically oppressed communities, workshops and seminars for religious leaders, and scholar/organizer training programs for those wishing to dedicate their lives to seeking wisdom and doing justice,
organize public deliberation around fundamental questions of meaning and value, and link that deliberation to established and emerging forms of civic engagement.
